I'm Union & I Voted for Progressives

I voted for Democrats and Progressives today. I thought about the future of the country and reflected on how various groups of people would suffer under the Conservative Republican policies.

a. Women- the GOP would take away their rights to control their own bodies.
b. Minorities- GOP's don't take a strong stand against discrimination.
c. LGBT's GOP doesn't recognize their rights and marriage equality.
d. Poor- GOP would destroy the safety net.
e. Middle Class- GOP will tax them heavily and unfairly.
f. Environmentalists- GOP doesn't recognize climate change and alternative energy sources.
g. Elderly- GOP would privatize social security and issue vouchers.
h. Uninsured- GOP doesn't offer alternatives, would leave it to market based, profits first system
i. Unions- GOP considers Unions as thuggery, not a right to peaceably assembly and arbitrate. GOP would   outsource jobs and privatize to appease their free market donors.
j. Students- GOP would take away Pell grants, not offer financial relief or protection.
k. Servicemen- GOP wanted to continue DADT and continued occupation of Iraq. They also want to go to war without considering foreign policy, as demonstrated in their overly hawkish stance.
l. Economists- GOP would insist that trickle down economics work. It doesn't. Their math doesn't add up.

The Obama administration passed Equal Pay for Equal Work, saved US auto industry, credit card reform, Hate Crimes Prevention Act, Affordable Care Act, Student Loan Reform, Wall Street Reform, Middle Class Tax Cuts, DADT repeal, raised fuel efficiency standards, ended Iraq War and killed Osama Bin Ladin. If it weren't for obstructionists in Congress- Eric Cantor, Mitch McConell, and John Boehner, perhaps more work will be achieved by his administration in the next four years. It's time for greedy selfish people to step down.

Top Five Lies

via pfaw.org

First Debate Comments

It's so easy to be cynical, but I still believe every little counts and every effort to demand more from politicians is worth it. Whatever it may be- I think it's worth it to ask them to address what's important to you down to the last minute. I'm not going to get everything I want from a candidate, but I will be realistic and pragmatic.

After tonight's debate, I doubt the voters were won over by Romney. Demographically, his party are strongly against gays, elderly, poor, students, middle class, immigrants, and women. The Democrats still have the better record. And without specifics, Romney is stuck lying, inventing and promising.

I think there's a time when we need to make choices in elections that would benefit not only ourselves but others as well, not in our lifetime but for future generations. It would have been beneficial to the debate viewership if the questions were released in advance so voters may look over them. Instead we're chugging down facts and figures, gambling on what may be true or not. If not for fact checking you may be left hung over and broke, so to speak.

Zadroga Act Opponents, Including Paul Ryan Observe Sept. 11 Anniversary

Never Forget

Five firefighters, Capt. Thomas Farino, FF Dana Hannon, FF Robert Spear, FF Paul Pansini, and FF Paul Tegtmeir died during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center while working at Engine 26. Photographs and negatives were scanned in an effort to preserve the images taken during the rescue and recovery operations at the World Trade Center after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Exclusivity Breeds Myopia, Ignorance

http://www.wnd.com/2012/09/death-threats-surround-911-memorial-event/ Some firefighters get greedy, become misguided, and decide to harass a charity. I think horrible events get to some firefighters' heads and they somehow believe they and them alone are the only ones that know the true extent of a particular horrible event. Not anyone else in similiar situations, not another event of horrifying tragic consequences, their fixation becomes myopic from lack of inclusiveness.

The reality is the alleged firefighters made an oath to serve the public. By harassing individuals, they make them feel less safe. If they feel they are undertrained or under equipped then there are the usual channels like the union, OSHA, and the FDNY. Harassing individuals and their families is out of line for people in the public safety industry. Are these alleged firefighters trying to extort a group due to equipment shortage and under training? This isn't the way to get things accomplished.

If you would like to make a charitable donation, there are many organizations that have open and transparent ways of doing business. Charity Navigator, rates organizations and may help the one decide how to effectively give to our own particular concerns.

Fast Talkers can RIp You Off

http://c2.com/cgi/

Argumentum Ad Baculum I think Republicans use this form of argument, especially Paul Ryan. If you don't check the facts you may fear the invented consequences of not agreeing with him. In John Locke's context for example, Ryan's says rights are provided by nature & God, it shouldn't be from government to Man. But he ignores that government is a social contract, existing in the state of Nature. His implied argument is that nature and God are good. But government is unnecessary. So do what's good and remove what is unnecessary. It baffles me why anyone would agree with the GOP conservatives, unless their prerogative is privatization and greed.

Romney's Death Squad Ties: Bain Launched With Millions From Oligarchs Behind Salvadoran Atrocities

Romney's Death Squad Ties: Bain Launched With Millions From Oligarchs Behind Salvadoran Atrocities

To raise capital for Bain, Romney didn't mind ignoring the human rights records of investors. On top of this his VP pick Ryan is against abortion in all cases, including rape and incest. The GOP presidential candidate is an unscrupulous venture capitalist, his running mate has a mere BA in economics, and neither have foreign policy experience. Both want to take away the safety net that help the poor and elderly. I am baffled why anyone with any shred of decency would even consider these two to lead the USA.

Ban Fracking in NY State

The future of energy should maintain the productivity of the ecosystem. Hydrofracking does not do that. The shale gas industry in the United States is hiding the dangers of fracking. If we are to address the future of energy in NY state, we should maintain the ecosystem's ability to provide us with drinking water, agricultural land, and habitation.

Hydro fracking in Ohio has caused mini earthquakes. Water tunnels may be damaged if hydro fracking is permitted in NY State. Existing laws, the “Halliburton Clause”, prevents the public from knowing what goes into the hydrofracking fluid. Known ingredients can't be removed from water purification plants that serve NY State. I refuse to accept the potential dangers to NY State's drinking water.

In Tioga County, PA—28 heads of cattle were exposed to drilling wastewater. Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection quarantined the cattle out of concern for the harm they may bring to the food chain. After only a limited time, the cattle became sick and several gave birth to stillborn calves. The unknown proprietary ingredients of fracking fluid can't be examined because of the Halliburton clause. It puts the environment, agriculture, and people in danger of getting sick.

In Dimock, PA and Pavillion, WY-- the water has been found to be contaminated by fracking. In Dimock, the drinking may have to be trucked in. How would NY State handle contamination? Would it truck water to its citizens? The roads will take a beating and fuel costs will rise. And where would we get the water from if our aquifers are destroyed by fracking? How would NY State handle the cleanup of unknown, proprietary fracking ingredients protected by the Halliburton clause? There is no peer reviewed process because the ingredients remain secret.

The costs of water tunnel repair, contamination clean up, are not sensible to NY State residents. No amount of money can return an ecosystem's pristine state once it has been contaminated by industry. We see this in the Hudson River, despite a slight recovery, still contains PCB's dumped by General Electric. The cleanup costs may fall to the public, up to $400 million dollars. Outside NY State, there are numerous examples of industrial accidents that have destroyed the environment and livelihoods. Let's take the long view and ban fracking in NY State. Let's protect its environment, agriculture, and its residents.
